Mostly follows canon but provides a different look at how the relationships in HP could have formed had Hermione realized that she and Ron did not fit well together and that Harry, her best friend, was really what she was looking for the whole time. The story of what could have happened between Harry and Hermione in the Deathly Hallows after Ron leaves. Features added subplots, alt POVs, OC characters, and a gritty and realistic view of the war. HHR is the main pairing, but this fic is about more than just their relationship. That book?” She tilted her head and showed a disdainful expression, “It certainly looked like it was a top quality book, right? Barret fidgeted nervously, almost stepping forward to say something before reconsidering and just walking away. Nanaki nodded to the flower girl before he too slipped from the room, passing Yuffie who was frowning, eyes turned towards the deck. She looked straight at Cloud, caught Aeris's eye; the ninja mouthed 'Take care of him' before she darted silently away. After Tifa sacrificed herself to prevent Aeris's death in the City of the Ancients, the flower girl finds herself left with Cloud on the Highwind the night before the final battle with Sephiroth.

Five years he'd been in that lab, watching and waiting for an opportunity to escape, to be free once more. Five years of pain, torture and horrific medical procedures; the physical scars had vanished thanks to Hojo's treatments, but he couldn't help but wince whenever he remembered any one of the million torturous moments. Sleep still proved difficult, and more than once he'd awoke in fright as Hojo had stood over him and brought the scalpel down once again. Zack shook his head. He needed to think of something else, needed to get his mind off of his recent past. Zack's thoughts about what he is going to do when he reaches Midgar, and why he says what he does about Aeris.

Vincent sat slumped under the starlight on top of the water-tower. It was freezing at night in the unremarkable mountain settlement of Nibelheim. Unremarkable in the present maybe; almost forgotten now were the town's prior claims to fame. Not only was the town once the home and exclusive domain of the Shinra family, but the treacherous slopes of the nearby Mount Nibel still played host to the very first Mako reactor. Time had moved on however; now there were Mako reactors everywhere and the family was busily beginning the construction of their mega-city across the sea. The little town that they once ruled was now little more than the last sign of civilisation for those who insisted on trailing through the treacherous mountains towards the distant land of Wutai.
